Ep. 62 – Navigating Trauma and Curbing Its Effects On Your Relationship

April 27, 2023

In our last episode, we discussed how trauma can impact our interactions with our spouse, making it harder to connect and communicate effectively. But today, we’re shifting the focus to the solutions. We’ll be discussing the practical tools and techniques that can help us overcome the barriers that trauma creates in relationships.

First, we’ll talk about the importance of validating experiences, both our own and our partners’. When we feel heard and understood, it can help us feel more connected and build trust in our relationships.

Next, we’ll dive into the benefits of building self-awareness, which can help us better understand our own emotions and reactions, as well as those of our partner.

We’ll also explore grounding techniques, which can help us stay present in the moment and manage overwhelming emotions when triggered by past traumas.

Central nervous system compression(hugs) is another technique that can help calm our nervous system and reduce the physical symptoms of anxiety or trauma.

Lastly, we’ll discuss EMDR,  to help process traumatic memories  and remove barriers to connecting.
