How can therapy help me?

How therapy can help you really depends on what your needs are.

  • Struggling in your marriage? It can help you achieve that happily-ever-after.
  • Don’t like yourself? Going to therapy can help you find your value.
  • Don’t like your emotions? We can throw them out and get you some new ones.
  • Kids driving you crazy? No, we won’t throw them out! We will teach you effective parenting skills.
  • Don’t even know who you are? Therapy can help you find yourself.

Do I really need therapy? I can usually handle my problems.

To be honest… Yes, you do need therapy. Most people can benefit from therapy; it is not just for CRAZY people (no offense to you crazies, you are welcome here, too).

Therapy can help you reduce your problems or find better solutions to your problems. If you figure out how to get rid of all your problems, let us know; we will come to you for help!

What is therapy like?

Depends on what you are coming in for.

If you are coming in for talk therapy to get a better understanding of yourself and how to deal with situations in a healthy way, we will do just that! We will talk through things and help you gain a different, healthier perspective.

If you are coming in for emotional issues or trauma, you might experience a deeply emotional and healing experience through our use of EMDR Therapy. See our EMDR for more information.

What about medication vs. psychotherapy?

Medication can be great! If you have a particularly difficult mental health issue, it can make it easier to manage your issue. Our stance and now also backed up by research is that the majority of mental health issues do NOT come from, “chemical imbalances in the brain”. Mental health issues are the result of unresolved emotions and trauma. Although medication can help, it will almost never solve the issue.

Psychotherapy can be great! It can help you gain wonderful insights into many areas of life, and it can help resolve the underlying problem that causes mental health issues.

If you are struggling with getting the results you want with just medication or with just psychotherapy, try both! In many cases, the combination of both medication and psychotherapy often have the best results, initially.

Do you take insurance, and how does that work?

We do not take insurance. We can, however, help you get reimbursed for therapy or help you get credit toward your deductible.

Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?

Yup! You can expect that what you talk about in therapy will remain in therapy. However, there are some exceptions. State law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations:

  • Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, dependent adults, and/or elders.
  • If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is in danger of harming him/herself or has threated to harm another person.
